If you’re dreaming of a lush jungle retreat, breathtaking ocean views, and easy access to one of Costa Rica’s most iconic national parks, Manuel Antonio and Quepos should be at the top of your list. I may be a little biased as this is my favorite area in Costa Rica, but whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a family vacation, or an adventure-filled trip, this region offers accommodations for every style and budget.

Here are some of the best places to stay in Manuel Antonio and Quepos — from luxury resorts to cozy boutique hotels and eco-friendly lodges.

Luxury Resorts in Manuel Antonio

Private beach at Arenas del Mar Beachfront and Rainforest in Costa Rica

One of the most luxurious eco-resorts in Costa Rica, Arenas del Mar offers direct access to the ocean and two beautiful beaches, two sparkling pools, gourmet dining at two restaurants both with incredible views, one of Manuel Antonio Park and the other of Playitas Beach. This sustainably designed resort is perfect for couples seeking privacy and comfort close to Manuel Antonio National Park.

Negative edge pool at Parador Nature Resort

Set on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific, Parador combines luxury and nature seamlessly. Expect tropical gardens, multiple pools, a world-class spa, and resident monkeys swinging by your balcony. With 7 restaurants all with diverse menus, you may never leave the resort, (however, I recommend you do, because there are many great restaurants in town)

Private beach at Tulemar Resort

Known for its vast array of accommodations ranging from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 bedroom villas as well as budget friendly bungalows and standard rooms there is something for everyone at Tulema, it is ideal for families and couples. One of the best parts of this resort is the access to it's private beach and top-tier service.

Trail at Shana by The Beach that leads to Playa Biesanz

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean this resort offers a casual yet elegant feeling. The rooms are spacious, the resort offers an adults only and kid friendly pool there are also accommodations to meet every need from garden view to sea view rooms, suites and even three bedroom luxury units with full kitchens and it's own private pool. My favorite thing about this hotel is the trail that leads down to Playa Biesanz a beach only accessible by boat or from the trail behind the hotel, it is a secluded and hidden gem. I feel the hotel is a bit pricey, but the location, complimentary breakfast and amenities, make it worth it.

Boutique & Mid-Range Hotels in Manuel Antonio

Pool at Gaia Hotel Reserve at Sunset

A modern five star boutique hotel nestled on a hilltop offering a peaceful jungle retreat with spa services, infinity pools, and personalized attention, and the best part, it's adults only! Great for couples who want tranquility and style. The hotel only has 22 rooms, including studios, suites and villas some with ocean views and plunge pools. We have not stayed here, but we have enjoyed their open to the public romantic restaurant, La Luna! It offers beautiful sunset views and a gourmet meal experience!

Hotel room inside what looks like an airplane at Hotel Costa Verde in Costa Rica

Famous for its quirky airplane suite and stunning views, Hotel Costa Verde is la more budget friendly hotel and gives you that jungle feeling and Costa Rican vibe but still offers a 4-star experience — and “Still More Monkeys Than People” is their perfect tagline.

Lookout from Si Como No resort over the jungle and ocean in Quepos Costa Rica

This resort is not what I would consider a luxury hotel, but it is nice and it's very unique. It feels like Costa Rica with is eco-design and bright décor. This family friendly hotels offers beautiful views from it's hilltop location, has a fun swimming pool with a waterslide for the kids and a large adult pool with a swim up bar. We stayed here for one night and enjoyed lounging in the pool and had breakfast at the Rico Tico restaurant. We have also dined at the, open to the public, Claro Que Si and really enjoyed it. The rooms are not fancy, but they are comfortable. Beware, there are quite a few stairs!

Entrance to La Mariposa resort with two statues and a large butterfly on a white stone wall

Built in the 1970s La Mariposa is one of the oldest hotels in the area.  It sits high atop a hill overlooking the ocean, Manuel Antonio and the jungle.  It offers one of the most beautiful views of all of the hotels in Manuel Antonio.  In December 2022 the hotel completed an extensive renovation.  They offer several different accommodations most with spectacular views.  They even have 1-3 bedroom apartments and the most amazing Honeymoon suite on the top floor with unobstructed views.  Their restaurant overlooks the ocean and is the perfect place to watch the sunset.

Tips for Booking Your Stay:

  • Book early during high season (December - April)

  • Check Proximity - some properties are higher up in the hills with amazing views and some are walking distance to the beaches and Manuel Antonio Park

  • Look for eco-certifications - if sustainability is important to you, it is important to many Costa Rican properties too.

Whether you stay in luxurious jungle resorts or laid-back beach hotels, Manuel Antonio and Quepos offer unforgettable experiences surrounded by nature. From watching monkeys play in the trees to soaking up the sunsets over the Pacific, this area perfectly captures the magic of Costa Rica’s Pura Vida lifestyle.
